Computer Education Teacher-Middle School

FLSA Status: Exempt
Employment Term: 10 months/Full-Time

Position Summary:

The role of the Middle School Technology Teacher is to promote technology literacy across disciplines and collaborate to assess student work, design curriculum, and improve personal practice. Under the general supervision of the School Principal, plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning, employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students including strategies to meet diverse student needs. Teachers are expected to actively engage and participate in culture building, including but not limited to classroom, lunch, and hallway norms and expectations. Teachers are also expected to invest and engage in the work of developing a results-oriented, collegial, and productive team-oriented approach to the work.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Support the goals, vision, and mission of the district
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Promote a positive learning environment that includes behavior management techniques appropriate to the needs of all students
  • Develop lessons that include differentiation techniques
  • Integrate the core content objectives in lessons as much as possible 
  • Teach internet safety and Digital Citizenship in accordance with current ISTE Standards for Students, including personal responsibility for technology use
  • Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity
  • Assist students in connecting to technological principles in the real world
  • Keep abreast of developments in the technology field by reading literature/journals, talking with colleagues, and professional development
  • Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, projects, etc.
  • Maintain and monitor student usage of computer lab equipment
  • Be aware of and monitor internet usage for students as outlined by District policy
  • Work collaboratively with the Instructional Director of Instructional Technology, Technology Coach, and other technology teachers to continually develop effective lesson plans using technology
  • Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of the computer lab materials 
  • Perform duties assigned by the administration in accordance with district policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with the other staff members in the building to assist them with educational technology needs
  • Model educational technology strategies for teachers that demonstrate best practices and research-based instruction with students.
  • Develop innovative lessons to challenge 21st-century learners
  • Follow all standard procedures as outlined in the District Teacher Job Description

 

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; in Computer Science, or Education; Master’s degree preferred
  • Valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in 6-8 Content areas with Instructional Technology Certification preferred and/or Valid teaching certificate for Business, Computer, and Information Technology
  • Previous teaching experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology in authentic and meaningful ways
  • Mastery of the necessary content knowledge and skills to successfully teach assigned content area(s) and grade level(s) and deliver exceptional standards-based instruction in the assigned content area(s) and grade level(s) that ensures academic growth for all students, including those with special needs.
  • Exceptional classroom management, organization, planning, instructional delivery, leadership, and technical skills; and the ability to utilize differentiated instructional methods to engage students in positive learning experiences.
  • Must have knowledge of a wide range of computer technologies.
  • Must possess working knowledge of the ISTE Standards for Students and Teachers
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Secure three background checks: PA State Criminal, PA Child Abuse, FBI Fingerprinting
